WHAT NAIL POLISHES TAUGHT ME

Bonjour! Today I wanted to share some of the things I learned using nail polishes.

I’m quite a nail polish hoarder. I have way too many, but the thing is I get really attached to them so even when they are almost used or dry, I still can’t throw them away. I know, it’s weird. But I think I’m slowly making some progress…enough about my hoarding problem, let me tell you how I take care of them.

PICKING A NAIL POLISH

Here’s what I leaned on how to buy a nail polish...Whenever I go to the drugstore and I see a nail polish I really like I open it and:

  • check the brush. I hate it when brushes are too big or if the bristles are all over the place.
  • you must check the color. Sometimes it looks great in the bottle, but on the nails it looks like you’re putting on a slightly colored top coat. So check the color and see the what shade the nail polish really is before you buy it.
  • always pick a nail polish from the back, because everybody opens and tries those in front.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR NAIL POLISH

It depends what brand the nail polish is, but they usually last around a year and then they start to become thick, clumpy and unpleasant to use because of the air bubbles. Here I have some tips on how to treat them to make them last longer.
  • After you paint your nails clean the neck of the bottle with a cotton pad soaked with remover. This is very important thing to do, because if nail polish gathers around the neck, the opening will allow air to get inside. Air is one of the main reasons nail polish thickens.

  • If you’re going on a holiday or somewhere for longer period of time you can put your nail polishes in a fridge. My friend keeps them in a fridge 24/7, I personally think it’s a bit weird to have them there, but they do last longer. At least that’s what she says. I did a bit of research and some people say that keeping them  in a fridge slows down the discoloration, but others say that they are made to be storaged in a room with normal temperatures and that putting them in a fridge makes them clumpier. I don’t know what to believe. Do you have any experience? What do you think? I have mine on this stand that I found in our house and I love it. I think they look so pretty. I know this is not ideal. It would be better if they were kept somewhere darker.
  • &HERE’S MY FINAL TIP: Don’t buy too many, because it is a waste of money. It is impossible to use all of them. It would be perfect if I only had like 10 bottles or something, but no. To be honest I think I don’t throw them away because they look pretty on my stand. Is that weird? Probably.. I need about 10 minutes to decide which one I want and 70% of the time I pick my OPI (party in my cabana). It’s sad. But at least I can finally paint my nails! I was playing piano for 8 years and I wasn’t allowed to have on anything but top coat or something invisible. Now, I’m finally free. :D

I hope you’ll find some of the tips helpful.
Have a nice day!

  1. Jaz sem ugotovila, da pri ''ohranjanju'' lakov pomaga tudi če jih imam shranjene v temnem prostoru. Od kar jih hranim v predalu se mi sploh ne zgostijo več, pa imam nekatere že kar nekaj let :)
